UKROP’S TO CLOSE PATTERSON AVENUE STORE; PHARMACY TO REMAIN OPEN

RICHMOND, Va. – Jan. 9, 2006 Ukrop’s Super Markets, Inc. today announced it will close its store at 9600 Patterson Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 28. The existing Ukrop’s Pharmacy next to the Patterson store will remain open and offer both pharmaceutical products and a very limited selection of groceries, such as milk, eggs and bread.

“Ukrop’s remains committed to serving its valued customers along the Patterson Avenue corridor,” said Bobby Ukrop, president and CEO. “Our customers continue to request increased product offerings and services at this location to better match the level of variety and selection available at other Ukrop’s locations. These enhancements are not feasible at the current Patterson location due to the store size and infrastructure limitations.”

Improvements to the nearby Gayton Crossing Ukrop’s already are underway to ensure the highest level of service at this location. Including the Gayton Crossing store, which is less than one mile from the Patterson location, Ukrop’s has seven stores within a short drive. The Wiley Bridge makes Ukrop’s newest location, in the Stratford Hills Shopping Center at the intersection of Chippenham Parkway and Forest Hill Avenue, an easy trip for many customers.

“We are very thankful to our loyal Patterson customers, many of whom have shopped at the store since it opened in 1975,” Ukrop added. “We will do our best to meet their needs at our other locations along the Patterson corridor.”

Ukrop's notified frequent Patterson shoppers of the transition via personal letters last week.  Special in-store signage will remind all customers of the seven neighboring Ukrop's stores less than eight miles away. These locations include:

    9781 Gayton Road
