UKROP'S ANNOUNCES GRAND OPENING OF ROANOKE LOCATION

Ivy Market Location Is Retailer's First Store In Southwest Virginia

RICHMOND, VA – June 19, 2007 -
Ukrop's Super Markets, Inc. today announced the opening of its first store in Southwest Virginia onWednesday, June 27 at 7am.

The new 58,700-square-foot store in the Ivy Market shopping center is located at 2331 Franklin Road at the corner of Franklin Road and Wonju Street.

"Ukrop's is excited to join the Roanoke community and looks forward to introducing Valley residents to our many signature offerings, including delicious food and superior customer service," said Bobby Ukrop, president and CEO. "Since my parents opened our first store in 1937, Ukrop's has strived to offer our customers delicious food at low prices, and a high level of customer service. Their beliefs are at the core of our operations today."

Ukrop's newest location will employ approximately 170 associates, the term Ukrop's uses to refer to all of its employees. 

"We are thrilled about the number of Roanoke area residents who want to work at Ukrop's," said Jason Woodcock, General Manager of Ukrop's Ivy Market. “Our Human Resources staff has been hard at work hiring and training our associates and we are ready to offer our customers the true Ukrop's experience the moment they step into our store.”

The new store includes many of Ukrop's signature offerings, such as:

  • Thousands of items at Consistent Low Prices throughout the store
  • 200-seat café featuring two stories, outdoor seating and free wireless Internet access
  • Starbucks, featuring coffee and pastries
  • Full-service deli and kitchen offerings, including fried chicken, rotisserie chicken, pizza, panini sandwiches, chef specials, party trays, hot foods, hot soup, specialty cheese, and meats (including Boar's Head products)
  • Ukrop's Bakery featuring decorated cakes, freshly baked bread, desserts, breakfast pastries, bagels, donuts, and muffins. Also, the department will feature Ukrop's line of All Natural Bakery products.
  • Expanded natural and organic food section, including grocery, produce, frozen food and dairy, as well as bulk items
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables, including a wide selection of organic and local produce items
  • Full-service meat and seafood department, featuring Ukrop's All Natural Beef, Pork, Chicken and Shrimp, free of added hormones and antibiotics, as well as fresh seafood from Virginia and around the world
  • Salad bar
  • Sushi (prepared on-site each day)
  • Fresh flower market


Additional time-saving amenities and services on-site for customers include:

  • A Celebration Room for private events, business meetings, non-profit functions and social gatherings
  • Catering station located at the front of the store next to customer service for quick ordering and pick-up
  • A full-service First Market Bank branch and ATM access

Celebrating the Grand Opening

To celebrate the grand opening, Ukrop's will offer "hot deals" at this store beginning June 27. In addition, one lucky Valued Customer at the new Roanoke location will win free groceries for a year. Additional prizes will be awarded through Ukrop's Valued Customer Card contests.
