UKROP'S & UPPY'S LAUNCH INNOVATIVE FUEL SAVINGS PROGRAM FOR
CUSTOMERS
New fuelperks! program to reward Richmonders with significant
gas discounts - from 10 cents to several dollars per gallon - based
on Ukrop's grocery purchases.
RICHMOND, Va. - June 26, 2008 - Two local family-owned businesses
are partnering to give Richmond-area residents significant discounts
on fuel purchases at selected participating gas stations.
Officials with Ukrop's Super Markets, Inc. and Uppy's Convenience
Stores, Inc. at a news conference today unveiled a new customer
loyalty program. A pilot program launches on Monday, June 30 to
offer Richmond-area Ukrop's customers substantial price reductions
at initially 14 gas stations operated by Uppy's and supplied by
Southside Oil. The number of stations will increase daily to 30-plus
by the end of the summer.
New fuelperks! program makes grocery and gas savings easy
The loyalty program - called fuelperks!® - rewards customers
with savings of 10 cents per gallon of fuel for every $50 of groceries
they buy at any Richmond-region Ukrop's location or Joe's Market.
The fuelperks! discounts, which can add up over multiple grocery
purchases, are for up to 20 gallons of fuel per transaction. For
example:
- A customer spending $100 at Ukrop's will earn a discount of
20 cents per gallon.
- A customer spending $250 at Ukrop's will earn a discount of
50 cents per gallon.
- A customer spending $500 at Ukrop's will earn a discount of
$1 per gallon.
The fuelperks! discount is valid for one use, up to 20 gallons.
After customers redeem their rewards, they start earning a new discount
based on their qualifying grocery purchases. Customers may check
their grocery receipt for their fuelperks! balance, visit www.ukrops.com/fuelperks
or call (804) 353-FUEL (3835) for help.
How fuelperks! works:
- On Monday, June 30, customers will begin earning fuelperks!
immediately on almost all Ukrop's grocery purchases. Certain non-discountable
items, like gift card purchases, are not currently included in
the program. A complete list of excluded items is at www.ukrops.com/fuelperks.
- Customers do not need to spend $50 in one visit. Ukrop's will
automatically track eligible spending of households using Ukrop's
Valued Customer® cards (UVC).
- The fuelperks! rewards expire three months after a customer
earns them.
- Customers must use a wallet-sized UVC card with a magnetic stripe
to redeem fuelperks!.
- Customers who use a keytag UVC card or a First Market Bank Market
Share Check Card will need to receive a new wallet-sized UVC card
to redeem their fuelperks!.
- Customers will be able to use their keytag UVC card or First
Market Bank Market Share Check Card in Ukrop's stores as long
as their household's UVC cards are joined together one account.
Participating fuelperks! locations are convenient to Ukrop's
- Ukrop's customers in the Richmond area can begin redeeming their
fuelperks! rewards on June 30 at initially 14 area locations displaying
"fuelperks! Accepted Here" signs
- As more participating fuelperks! stations are added to reach
the goal of 30-plus area locations by the end of the summer, they
will be listed at www.ukrops.com/fuelperks.
How to redeem fuelperks! rewards for gas discounts
1. At a participating gas station, if prompted, press "yes"
when asked for a UVC card.
2. Insert the wallet-sized UVC card.
3. The fuelperks! discount appears on the display.
4. Insert a credit or debit card at the pump or pay cash inside.
5. Watch the prices drop.
6. Select fuel grade.
7. Start pumping - for less.
For example, if unleaded regular is $3.79 per gallon, and a customer
has earned a discount of 70 cents per gallon, then the fuel price
per gallon will be $3.09 per gallon for up to 20 gallons. Only one
vehicle can be filled per discounted transaction.
"Fuelperks! is the most ambitious customer loyalty and rewards
program since the launch of our Ukrop's Valued Customer Card in
1987," said Ukrop's President and CEO Bobby Ukrop.
"Rising fuel prices impact everyone from young adults to families
to seniors on fixed incomes," Ukrop added. "Our exclusive
partnership with Uppy's, another local, family business, is an effort
to help Richmonders stretch their grocery and gas dollars. We've
designed fuelperks! to be as easy and as convenient as possible
and plan to quickly expand the program to more gas stations with
Uppy's."
Uppy's Convenience Stores President Steven Uphoff, added,
"Our new fuel discount program with Ukrop's is about one thing
- rewarding customers. We share Richmonders' concerns about rising
fuel prices, and fuelperks! is one way that we're trying to help
roll down prices at the pump. We are very pleased to be partnering
with Ukrop's on this program. Together, we're expanding fuelperks!
in the Richmond area to include even more fueling locations for
even greater convenience."
