UKROP’S PHARMACY RECOGNIZED AS DRUG TOPICS’ CHAIN OF THE YEAR
RICHMOND, Va. – July 5, 2006 - Ukrop’s Super Markets, Inc. is pleased to announce that Ukrop’s Pharmacy has been recognized as Drug Topics Chain of the Year for 2006. Ukrop’s Pharmacy was selected for recognition by Drug Topics for providing outstanding services to patients, including a comprehensive immunization program, health screenings, and free wellness and disease state management classes.
John Beckner, Ukrop’s Director of Pharmacy and Health Services, is excited by the award, and salutes the entire Pharmacy staff at Ukrop’s as a contributor to this honor. “At Ukrop’s, we knew early on that as a small pharmacy operator, we would have to differentiate from the competition in order to be successful,” says Beckner. “We still dispense medication; however, we have taken the relationship a pharmacist has with their patient to another level by offering wellness and disease management services, to include private consultations, wellness classes and immunizations.”
So committed is Ukrop’s to this type of practice, that when a new pharmacist joins Ukrop’s, they are asked to select a focus area of disease management. Ukrop’s Pharmacy has an extensive Diabetes management program and offers a comprehensive list of immunizations, from flu shots to adult and travel vaccines. In addition, Ukrop’s Dietitians work directly with Ukrop’s Pharmacists to offer nutrition counseling based on a patient’s disease state.
Ukrop’s offers a number of health and wellness screenings, as well as free group classes and information sessions. “When someone learns that they have a medical condition, they may have to stretch a family budget to cover doctor visits and medication,” says Beckner. “ We think that our free education opportunities and screenings will help patients receive information they need to help manage their medical situation, without incurring additional costs.”
Currently, there are 22 Ukrop’s Pharmacy locations in the Richmond, Williamsburg and Fredericksburg areas, with 78 pharmacists and 72 technicians on staff.
