new fuelperks! program rewards area customers with significant gas
discounts - from 10 cents to several dollars per gallon - at 21
local gas stations
RICHMOND, Va. - Aug. 12, 2008 - Richmonders continue saving big on fuel purchases to the tune of more than $515,000 – or an average of more than $5 per fill up – since Ukrop's Super Markets, Inc. launched its innovative fuelperks!® rewards program on June 30.
"Ukrop's customers in the Richmond area have redeemed fuelperks! nearly 80,000 times totaling more than one million gallons of discounted gas," said Ukrop's President and CEO Bobby Ukrop. "We've seen strong interest from customers in saving on groceries and gas purchases through fuelperks!. Some customers rush to the pump while others are opting to accumulate fuelperks!."
About fuelperks!
- The loyalty program rewards Ukrop's customers with savings of 10 cents per gallon of fuel for every $50 of groceries they buy at any Richmond-region Ukrop's location or Joe's Market.
- The fuelperks! discounts, which can add up over multiple grocery purchases, are for up to 20 gallons of fuel per transaction at any of the 21 participating locations run by Uppy's Convenience Stores, Inc. Once the fuelperks! discount is redeemed at the pump, customers begin to earn fuelperks! again.
- A complete list of participating locations and detailed information about the program is accessible at www.ukrops.com/fuelperks. Six additional fueling locations will accept fuelperks! rewards later this summer.
- Customers do not need to spend $50 in one visit. Ukrop's will automatically track eligible spending of households using Ukrop's Valued Customer® cards (UVC).
- The fuelperks! rewards expire three months after a customer earns them.
- Customers must use a wallet-sized UVC card with a magnetic stripe to redeem fuelperks!.
"As two family-owned businesses in Richmond, Ukrop's and Uppy's are helping our customers with two of their biggest monthly budget items – groceries and gas," Ukrop added. "We've made the program as easy and as convenient as possible, and it's continuing to grow. While redeeming my fuelperks! at Uppy's, I have been fascinated listening to customers – hearing stories about how much fuelperks! discount they accumulated and how much they appreciate saving $12, $35 or even $70 per fill up."
Scott Aronson, Ukrop's vice president of marketing and analysis, said, "Before launching fuelperks!, customers told us that they would drive around to save a few pennies. Now, they just shop at Ukrop's and head straight to one of the conveniently located 21 Uppy's stations to save money on fuel. Several Ukrop's shoppers have mentioned that they are saving their fuelperks! for pre-vacation fill ups. Without this substantial savings, some customers expressed concerns about not being able to afford the drive to the beach or mountains. It's a good feeling to know that the Ukrop's fuelperks! program is making challenging economic times a little easier for many Richmond customers."

How to redeem fuelperks! rewards for gas discounts
- At a participating gas station, if prompted, press "yes" when asked for a UVC card.
- Insert the wallet-sized UVC card.
- The fuelperks! discount appears on the display.
- Insert a credit or debit card at the pump or pay cash inside.
- Watch the prices drop.
- Select fuel grade.
- Start pumping – for less.
For example, if unleaded regular is $3.79 per gallon and a customer has earned a discount of 70 cents per gallon, then the fuel price per gallon will be $3.09 for up to 20 gallons.
Only one vehicle can be filled per discounted transaction. Once accumulated fuelperks! discounts are redeemed, customers begin to once again earn fuelperks!
