UKROP'S TO OPEN NEWEST STORE AT WHITE OAK VILLAGE IN HENRICO NEXT WEEK

Company to close its existing location on Laburnum Avenue at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, and open new location just blocks away at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7

RICHMOND, Va. - Oct. 3, 2008 - Ukrop's customers in Eastern Henrico County can expect significant enhancements next week when the company's newest store opens at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at White Oak Village on Laburnum Avenue.

The 61,000-square-foot store is located at 4591 S. Laburnum Ave. The new store is just blocks from the Ukrop's at 4346 S. Laburnum Ave., which opened as the company's 16th location in 1987. The old store will close its doors at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, and its team of 200 associates will welcome customers again when the new White Oak Village store opens on Tuesday morning. The building for the old Ukrop's location will be offered for sale or rent.

"Our family business has a long history in Eastern Henrico County, and we are pleased to be a part of the new White Oak development," said Bobby Ukrop, president and CEO. "We think our new store reflects our commitment to the Ukrop's vision and purpose - striving to be a world-class provider of food and services while creating great shopping experiences for our customers and terrific working experiences for our associates.

"Customers will appreciate our fresh and delicious food, great prices, and extensive natural and organics section," he added. "The second floor café with comfortable seating and our new Celebration Room make the store a terrific community meeting place."

Paul Rowe, manager of the Laburnum Ave. location that is closing and the new White Oak Village Ukrop's, said, "Customers tell me that they are excited about our new modern store. We've also strived to create an environmentally friendly store. For example, we have an energy-efficient white roof as well as large skylights and numerous windows to maximize natural light through an automated lighting system."

The new White Oak Village store includes many of Ukrop's signature offerings and amenities:

  • Thousands of items at great everyday prices throughout the store
  • 200-seat café featuring two stories, outdoor sidewalk seating and free wireless Internet access

Celebrating the Grand Opening
To celebrate the White Oak Village grand opening, Ukrop's will host a two-week celebration with special offers, food sampling, customer giveaways and family activities.

During the first two weeks the store is open (from Tuesday, Oct. 7, until Saturday, Oct. 18) Ukrop's will give the first 300 customers in the store each day a free grocery item. In addition, any customers who use their Valued Customer card for a purchase at the new White Oak location during the first two weeks will automatically be entered to win free groceries for a year (a $5,200 value). During the grand opening celebration, Ukrop's also will give away 10 free tanks of gas as part of its fuelperks! program.
